The State of the Union
At 10 years the state of the union remains strong.
We continue to inspire and delight one another and even in our older agedness (see photos of wrinkles), we still love to look at and oogle over one another. What I fell in love with 18 years ago and married 10 years ago, continues to be there and has developed into a more glorious, gracious, gentle, hilarious, and creative soul. I love my petit jambon and am in it for another 10, health and that god-guy willing.
However, there are some changes and developments to address. As our good friends, Steve and Naomi do every anniversary, they look over the year/years, see what's working, compliment it and then fess up about a rusty spot. Sometimes its crap like, "Why don't you turn off the lights and shut doors" and sometimes it can be a bit more pressing.
This is our pressing- greater independence. We married and vowed that we would not lose ourselves in each other and remain individuals in our duo-ness. With the fun that we have and the enormous amount of time we spend willingly together, this area has turned a bit grey. So we are on it. This year's state of the union address is all about keepin' it real independent style, at least once a month. Bringing back the girls night out, takin' off for weekends solo, etc. As we are both teachers and Type A personalities run in our blood (yes, really- its true) we have decided this needs to be unspontaneos at first until it become commonplace. Thus, we designate one day a month as independence day. Anything more that that, with the exception of a weekend trip, would make us miss the duo too much. So long live the duo and bring back the more independence. Anyone for a girls night out?
